• 1.0 out of 5 stars from Anne Somewhere -- Translation of a Translation : This ebook appears to be an English translation of a foreign language edition. Not having read Wilde in a long time, I was thinking the dialogue was particularly artistic, with weird sentence structure, mixed verb tense and lack of articles throughout. 'It's a perfectly lovable afternoon.' seemed beautiful 19th century language. I slogged on, then noticed the word 'book,' a common word in the 1800s, had been replaced with 'ebook.' LOL. I did a quick comparison of other buying options and voila. It's a translation of a translation. Even though I returned it, for a refund (Thanks Amazon) I did capture some of the most charming substitutions that resonated more than the original english. I was surprised by all of the connections to art, aesthetics and criticism. Those are areas I am very interested in and never expected this book to address complex questions in depth, leaving room for ambiguity and disagreement. It will make you think.
